The debate for and against doctor’s excuses At present, an ethical debate to and for the selling and buying of doctor’s excuses is ongoing as more and more people are missing important days. Those people who are against the selling of fake doctor’s notes say that these products are promulgating a culture of irresponsibility, and an outright disregard for the value of discipline and commitment. On the other side of the coin, the high cost of health insurance prevents some employees to get immediate medical attention and many of them opt to stay at home to recuperate. While fake doctor’s notes cost around $15, actual consult with a physician plus medicines can reach around $100. Not to mention that if they do not present a doctor’s excuse, they could lose their jobs. Typically, a doctor’s excuse gives the reason for someone missing some important thing in school or work, perhaps a meeting with a client, or a final exam. A doctor’s excuse should contain the doctor’s contact information such as the name, address and possibly, contact number; the date when the note was made; the name of the patient; the certification of medical consultation. It must be noted, however that these are fake doctor’s note and are usually bought online. Too many times, I was sick because I had to work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whenever I have the luxury of time to rest, my first refuge was always a DVD. Corporate life was really tiring, very stressful but at the midst of it all, I was also bored because had to do the same things everyday. I swear I could do my daily tasks with my eyes closed and my mind drifting off somewhere else. I can I say I was the luckiest employee of the company because despite the times I was not at work, I managed to get promoted and make my team one of the best in the office. We got awards every month and most of my agents have been recognized as a top performer at least once in their career. At the beginning, I felt that I couldn’t ask for anything anymore, but soon, the stress caught up with me and I had to file for a week-long vacation, and there were often cases I went on leave without getting proper approval. Many times I consult the doctor and make up invisible pains I experience in all parts of the body, if it isn’t my back that’s killing me, it’s a terrible headache, a neck pain or sometimes a toothache. Now I know there are a lot of employees like me who are burnt out and are getting all kinds of diseases due to stress. Some employees who are so tired they can’t even sleep at night, some students who are pressured with school that they can no longer enjoy vacations. This is probably the reason why more and more people are buying fake doctor’s notes. It is this modern world that’s giving us too much pain, if it isn’t physiological, then it is most definitely psychological. I am not saying that getting doctor’s excuses are good or that they are ethical, it’s just that, I understand why people would opt to buy such a thing.
